    Perfect for what i needed

Very easy to install. I like the option of being able to take them off and on as needed. Can't wait to use them again. Delicate enough for panfish but strong enough for gamefish.

    good overall product

They have made a drastic improvement of this product from its original design. I purchased one of the original rattle snake reels and the tension system lobed when the line was peeled off. This revised model is much better allowing the line to come off smoothly. It utilizes a wing nut design that allows for a much better tension control. My only complaint would be that the flexible arm is loose at several of the sockets so bending it to the optimal location is more difficult, but still achievable. I would also add a soft (possibly felt) washer under the wing nut because the molded plastic spool is not perfectly flat. This allows for very precise tension control. This may be an issue if it freezes.

    Rattle Reel is a winner!!

I love the new design of these reels! The first design (the little white screw thing) was cumbersome and some reels didn't roll line off smoothly and would stick causing finicky fish to drop the bait. The new design fixed that. I wish there was a retrofit for the reels I own!

They need to have a louder rattle in the reels.otherwise they would be perfect.

    Great reel

This is my 2nd year using the Rattlesnake Reels in my ice house and they work great. Catch Cover should add a rubber band to the arm of the reel to hook your line on. I simply tie a knot in a rubber band and place the hook in the small loop, tighten the reel so there's tension and all I'm all set for reel storage.

Great product but needs some tweaks

Posted by David Anderson on 6th Mar 2015

I replaced all of my 6 Lindell Rattle Reels with the Catchcover Rattlesnakes. I love the mounting system, accessories as I mount my camera to one, and they are well built. My biggest complaint is how the reels are configured, out of the box none of them turned very easy or smooth, even with the drag all the way out. The reels are held on the shaft by a self locking retaining ring and when assembled it appears that it puts too much pressure against the reel. I took them apart and moved the retaining ring back just a smidgen to let them free spool much easier and they work great. The last 2 I simply applied a little outside pressure to the spool towards the open end and they responded well. Looking at the design it would seem as though a simple threaded end of the shaft with a locking type plastic wing nut and a thick felt washer would have made adjusting a lot better and make the removal of the spool easier. The issue of the line going behind the spool was solve by using 25 pound vinyl coated tip up line and tying a swivel then a mono leader, seems to work well. My Lindell's were OK but you could not adjust where they sat and at some point they turned too easy, a fish would run and it would spool off 10 extra feet of line. All of my friends have bought them now.

    good but not great

Posted by les krenz on 19th Jan 2015

I have two minor issues, every now & then the line will go over the bach side of the reel & tangle then u probably need to remove the reel from the spindel to free it. Getting it back together depends on some luck. Also the drag adjustment isn't always easy to set & hold a slight pressure on the reel. Despite these minor problems i have used alot of rattle reels and have far more rattlesnake reels than anything else.

    Rattle reel

Great product. Love them but there are two things that could be changed. I had to mount some on the ceiling and when driving they can wobble out. They should have a latch that allows them to snap together and stay locked. The set screw on one of mine won't stop the reel any more. I'm not sure if I over tightened it or what. I like to snug them up when I store them but it won't stay snug anymore. Maybe the set screw needs to tighten to metal instead of plastic.
